National home building community mourns passing of Wess Galyon

WICHITA  – The residential construction industry is mourning the loss of Wesley “Wess” Galyon, a nationally respected figure who served as president and CEO of the Wichita Area Builders Association (WABA) for 40 years. Galyon passed away on April 11, just weeks after his retirement on Feb. 27.

Throughout his four-decade tenure, Galyon was a cornerstone of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Federation, serving in numerous leadership roles within the Executive Officer Council (EOC). His career was defined by aggressive advocacy and the expansion of member services that shaped the Wichita metro area for generations.

“Wess was more than a leader—he was a steady voice, tireless advocate, and a nationally renowned titan within the home building industry,” said Tyler York, Galyon’s successor at WABA.

In February 2026, WABA honored his legacy by officially naming its headquarters “The Wesley E. Galyon Building”. Galyon was also instrumental in establishing the WABA Builders Care Foundation, a charitable arm dedicated to community support projects.
