PLAINVIEW — The Hale County Airport is set to receive a significant infrastructure upgrade, backed by a federal investment aimed at boosting the region’s aviation industry and workforce. The funding is part of a broader initiative in which the U.S. Department of Commerce invests $40 million to support economic development projects in seven states.
The U.S. Economic Development Administration announced on Oct. 8 that it is awarding $1.5 million to Plainview. The grant will fund the construction of a new terminal at the Hale County Airport, replacing aging facilities and expanding regional aviation capacity.
In addition to physical infrastructure, the EDA funds will directly support workforce development initiatives tailored to the aviation sector. The agency noted that such investments are designed to leverage existing regional assets and support long-term economic prosperity in distressed communities.
The $40 million in national awards was allocated through the EDA’s fiscal year 2025 Public Works and Economic Adjustment Assistance programs. Caleb Spencer, EDA Chief of Staff, stated that the grants reflect a commitment to strengthening local economies and ensuring federal resources deliver measurable results for American workers and businesses.
