WESLACO — Local veterans and community leaders in May celebrated the groundbreaking of a brand-new facility for Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2410, funded through federal dollars secured by the U.S. House of Representatives.

U.S. Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) championed the legislative efforts to pass the necessary funding into law, paving the way for the facility’s construction infrastructure.

“When a South Texas veteran comes back from war, we owe it to them to provide the best possible support as they acclimate back to civilian life or need to obtain the benefits they earned,” Gonzalez said in a statement following the groundbreaking. “I proudly worked alongside local leaders to get these funds passed into law, and I’m elated that we are one step closer to making this transformative new chapter in our community a reality.”
