AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott has announced his support for a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) investigation into a North Texas housing development formerly known as East Plano Islamic Center (EPIC) City.
The investigation, led by the Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity, follows allegations that the development—now called The Meadow—engaged in religious discrimination by marketing itself as an exclusive Muslim community.
HUD Secretary Scott Turner stated the probe began after the Texas Workforce Commission filed a complaint alleging a “large-scale pattern of religious discriminatory conduct”. Developers have denied the allegations, stating they have followed all federal and state laws.
