EL PASO — Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) has celebrated a major milestone in its efforts to bring comprehensive cancer care to West Texas and the Borderplex region.

The Fox Cancer Center, which will be the first comprehensive cancer center to serve the region, represents two decades of vision and persistence. The facility will share space with a new Clinical Sciences Building, with the combined 350,000-sq. ft. project being the largest building project in the history of the Texas Tech University System.

The new center will serve up to 1,100 cancer patients annually with dedicated space for surgical, medical, and radiation oncology. The project is a partnership between TTUHSC El Paso and University Medical Center (UMC).

Key funding milestones for the project include:

  • The Fox family committed a historic $25 million gift.
  • The Texas Legislature has appropriated a total of $125 million across 2021, 2023, and 2025 for planning and construction.
  • El Paso County voters approved a $396.6 million bond for UMC in 2024, which included $30 milion for the cancer center.
