DALLAS — Dallas-Fort Worth has emerged as the most active grocery market in the United States, driving a surge in retail construction across North Texas, according to a recent market report by the commercial real estate firm Weitzman.
The brokerage is currently tracking 34 new grocery stores in the development pipeline across the Metroplex, with completions slated for 2026 and 2027. This influx follows the opening of 25 new grocery locations over the past two years.
The retail building boom is largely a response to the region’s rapid population and job growth. Despite economic headwinds such as inflation and rising construction costs, developers have maintained disciplined growth, helping the Dallas-Fort Worth region achieve a record-high retail occupancy rate of 95.3%.
