Congressman Gonzalez urges Navy to fund critical upgrades at NAS Kingsville

The Texas Construction News staff writer

KINGSVILLE – U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) has formally petitioned the U.S. Navy to prioritize essential facility modernizations at Naval Air Station (NAS) Kingsville in the fiscal year 2027 Unfunded Priority List.

The request highlights two primary projects: a new pass and tag security facility and a modernized fire station. Gonzalez argued that the current infrastructure is insufficient for a base that generates an estimated $1 billion annual economic impact and produces roughly 50% of the Navy and Marine Corps’ tactical jet pilots. The upgrades are viewed as critical for both personnel safety and the long-term operational viability of the installation.
