SAN ANTONIO — More than 100 industry leaders gathered recently in San Antonio to explore innovation and stewardship within the state’s building materials sector at the Texas Aggregates & Concrete Association (TACA) annual Environmental, Sustainability & Safety Seminar.
Held Oct. 30-31 at the Plaza San Antonio Hotel & Spa, the two-day event focused on best practices for an industry essential to the state’s rapid development. As Texas continues to grow, TACA members provide the foundational materials for homes, hospitals, highways, and bridges.
Legislative and regulatory focus
“TACA operators don’t just build for Texas — they build with Texas,” said TACA President and CEO Andrew Pinkerton. “Our Environmental, Sustainability & Safety Seminar helps them strengthen the connection between responsible operations and thriving communities.”
Industry experts at the seminar covered practical topics ranging from greener concrete innovations to workforce development and mental health initiatives. Attendees engaged with key issues including Texas Senate Bill 1394, noise management, veteran support initiatives, community engagement, and emergency preparedness.
The program also featured updates from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Sam Short, deputy director of the Air Permits Division, provided updates on air permitting, while Chad Dumas, team leader for Air Dispersion Modeling, discussed developments in air modeling practices.
Pinkerton noted that the operators’ attendance reflected their dedication to serving their local areas.
“Their commitment to taking time from demanding schedules to attend this seminar and learn the latest best practices, innovations and technologies underscores that dedication,” Pinkerton said.
TACA represents the aggregate, concrete, cement, and associated industries in Texas, advocating for industry issues and providing training to help members manage their businesses with integrity and transparency.
