IRVING— Fluor Corporation, headquartered in Irving, has been awarded a contract by Teck Resources Limited to provide engineering, procurement, and integrated construction management services for the Highland Valley Copper Mine Life Extension project.

The project near Logan Lake in British Columbia, Canada, aims to extend the operational life of the mine from 2028 to 2046. Fluor will oversee upgrades to the facility’s conveying, grinding, and flotation systems, as well as modifications to the general plant area and utilities.

“Fluor has worked on several projects at Highland Valley Copper and is looking forward to expanding its footprint in British Columbia, a key mining region with a long history of copper extraction,” Harish Jammula, president of Fluor’s Mining and Metals business, said in a statement.. “Fluor’s unmatched experience in large scale copper concentrators, and our expertise in managing complex extensions, will be key to delivering this project.”

Construction on the project is scheduled to begin immediately and is expected to create approximately 2,900 local jobs during the construction phase. Teck Resources CEO Jonathan Price noted that the extension is foundational to the company’s copper growth strategy as demand for the metal rises with the global energy transition.
