Google announced plans on Feb. 24 to expand its Texas footprint with a new data center in Wilbarger County. The facility is designed to operate without consuming water for its cooling systems, a significant shift aimed at addressing water scarcity concerns in the region.
Google is partnering with energy provider AES to co-locate the data center with new clean power generation plants. This “power first” approach means the facility will rely on its own clean energy supply rather than straining the local power grid.
The Wilbarger County site will utilize advanced air-cooling technology, limiting the campus’s water consumption to critical operations such as kitchens. The project is part of Google’s broader commitment to invest more than $40 billion in Texas through 2027.
