SUGAR LAND Applied Optoelectronics, Inc. (AOI) has broken ground on a new manufacturing facility as part of a $150 million expansion of its Sugar Land headquarters.

The expansion includes a new 210,000-sq. ft. structure dedicated to producing optical transceivers for AI-focused data centers. The project is expected to be operational by summer 2026 and will create more than 500 new jobs in fields ranging from advanced engineering to distribution operations.

The City of Sugar Land and Fort Bend County supported the project with a $2 million incentive package. Upon completion, AOI is expected to have the largest production capacity for AI-focused datacenter transceivers in the United States.
