NAVARRO COUNTY— Matrix Renewables and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor SOLV Energy have commenced construction on the 457-megawatt (MWdc) Tormes Solar Project following a groundbreaking ceremony in mid-May.

Located approximately two miles southeast of Barry and west of Corsicana, the massive photovoltaic solar facility represents a total investment of more than $750 million in renewable energy infrastructure and the local Navarro County community.

The project is expected to support about 450 jobs during the peak of its construction phase. Once it achieves commercial operation—currently slated for March 2027—Tormes Solar will supply reliable zero-emission power to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) grid. Utility-scale solar projects like Tormes have become increasingly vital for ERCOT, frequently stepping in to meet record-breaking demand during the state’s blistering summer afternoons.

In addition to grid support, the project is expected to generate significant long-term property tax revenue for Navarro County and local school districts over its operational lifespan.
