Sunraycer renewables breaks ground on 620-MW solar and storage portfolio in Northeast Texas

The Texas Construction News staff writer

HAGANSPORT— Sunraycer Renewables has signaled the start of construction on a massive renewable energy portfolio in Northeast Texas, consisting of the Lupinus I & II and Eagle Springs Solar + Storage projects. With a combined capacity of more than 620 MWdc of solar and 475 MWh of battery energy storage, this represents one of the largest concurrent clean energy builds in the region.

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. is serving as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor. The project is notable not just for its scale, but for its impact on the regional labor market:

  • Labor force: The build is expected to create over 200 new jobs.
  • Skill development: McCarthy is utilizing its specialized apprenticeship program to train local workers in solar-specific trade skills, providing a pathway for craft professionals into the renewable sector.

Technical specifications: The Lupinus facility alone accounts for 520 MWdc of the solar generation and 411 MWh of the storage, utilizing large-scale battery arrays to stabilize the Texas grid during peak demand.
