AUSTIN— Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) has received a Letter of Intent from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) committing $108 million in federal reimbursements to support critical infrastructure upgrades.
The funding is designated for the airport’s Airfield Capacity Improvements project, which includes the construction of new taxiways and upgrades to existing airfield infrastructure. These improvements are a prerequisite for the airport’s larger “Journey With AUS” expansion program, specifically supporting the future construction of Concourse B.
Concourse B is set to add at least 20 new gates to the airport, significantly increasing capacity to meet the region’s rapid travel demand.
“Safe, modern infrastructure is essential to keeping our aviation system the safest and most efficient in the world,” FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said in a statement. “This investment at Austin–Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) will reduce delays and increase capacity as the airport continues to grow.”
The federal commitment follows a bipartisan advocacy effort led by U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett and other members of the Texas congressional delegation. To date, AUS has also secured nearly $96.34 million from the FAA’s Airport Terminal Program for the tunnel and concourse project.
