U.S. to lower Canadian softwood lumber duties this summer

WASHINGTON – Homebuilders may soon see some relief in material costs as the U.S. Department of Commerce announced plans to lower antidumping and countervailing tariffs on Canadian softwood lumber.

The current combined rate of 35.16% is expected to drop to 24.83% following an annual review. The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has frequently cited lumber price volatility as a significant barrier to housing affordability.
