CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The City of Corpus Christi has been awarded a $6.5 million Coastal Erosion Planning and Response Act grant from the Texas General Land Office for the renourishment of North Beach.
The project will revitalize approximately 3,500 linear feet of coastline stretching from Surfside Park to the USS Lexington. The initiative will add between 75,000 and 85,000 cubic yards of beach-quality sand to combat erosion and restore the shoreline.
The Texas General Land Office will act as the lead agency, managing contract procurement and construction. The city’s Parks and Recreation Department expects the cooperative agreement to be finalized by May, and officials intend to minimize disruptions to the beach during the peak summer tourist season.
