WACO, Texas — The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is continuing work on the $234 million My35 Waco South Construction Project, which will widen and reconstruct three miles of Interstate 35 from 12th Street to Highway 6.
The project, which began in February 2025, is scheduled for completion in early 2029.
The primary upgrade will expand the highway to eight wider main lanes, four in each direction. The project also includes continuous frontage roads, redesigned ramps, new sidewalks for enhanced pedestrian and bicycle safety, and rebuilt crossings with U-turn lanes.
In June, crews began reducing I-35 to two lanes in both directions from 12th Street to S Loop 340. TxDOT expects this two-lane configuration to remain in place for approximately two years.
